BIOGRAPHY

• Born at Connally Air Force Base in Waco, Texas in May 1952, the fourth of seven children of (then) Captain Travis and Delores Kitchens
• Attended elementary schools in Harlingen, Texas, Sacramento, California, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, Kincheloe Air Force Base, Michigan, and after my father retired from the Air Force in 1963 attended 6th grade at Robinson (Waco), Texas • Graduated Robinson (Waco) High School in 1970
• Attended the University of Texas, McLennan Community College and Baylor University before being admitted to Baylor Law School, without graduating from college, in 1975
• Graduated Baylor Law School in May 1977
• Admitted to the Texas Bar in November 1977
• Married to Susan Kitchens since December 30, 1977; with two adult children, Wil and Nate
• Admitted to practice before all courts in the State of Texas, the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Member of the Texas Bar College
• Moved to Trinity County in April of 1978 • Assistant District Attorney for the 258th Judicial District serving Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity Counties from April 1978 until end of October 1981
• Law partner with Joe Scott Evans in Groveton from November 1981 through end of 2010 • Solo law practice in Onalaska, Texas January 2011 through December 2018
• From May 1977 through December 2018, as a prosecutor, defense attorney and civil lawyer, I have represented thousands of victims of crime, citizens accused of crime, and citizens seeking justice on their claims in court, practicing in numerous counties in our state, but primarily in Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity Counties • From 1977 through 2018 has been involved in countless jury and non-jury trials, and over 60 appeals • Served on State Bar of Texas Grievance Committee, District 2-C, from 1987-1993, with one year as Chairperson, investigating attorney misconduct
• Elected as “Life Fellow” with the Texas Bar Foundation “in recognition of service and devotion to the highest traditions of the Bar”. The Texas Bar Foundation solicits charitable contributions and provides funding to enhance the rule of law and the system of justice in Texas, especially for programs that relate to legal assistance for the under-served, the administration of justice, ethics in the legal profession, the encouragement of legal research, publications and forums, and education of the judicial branch of our government their goals and beliefs.
