JUDGE TRAVIS KITCHENS

Principled. Proven. Impartial

To the Voters of the 258th Judicial District serving Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity County:

As your current District Judge, it is my honor to announce I am seeking re-election. After graduating from Baylor Law School and marrying my wife Susan, we moved to Trinity County in April l978. I worked as your Assistant District Attorney with the 258th Judicial District until 1981 when I went into private practice.

Throughout my forty four plus years of practicing law, I have appeared in front of dozens of judges.  I have observed how these judges, who were entrusted with dispensing justice, handled their courtrooms – having seen the good, the bad and the ugly practices.  I have witnessed the pain, anxiety and the fear of those persons who must come before the courts to seek justice.  My experiences in these courtrooms have instilled a principle that I follow as your District Judge – make sure everyone gets their fair and just day in court.

Most citizens only hear about a district judge when there is a high-profile criminal case in the news.  In reality, there are many more types of cases heard by a district judge, including family law,  business  and civil  cases.  It is important that your district judge has the legal education, training, experience, and expertise to handle all matters that may come before the court.  My legal education, training and experience, along with my life experiences, have allowed me to serve as a fair and respectful judge.

Our courtrooms are no place for local politics or favoritism, but should be a place for all parties to seek equal justice and above all, fair and impartial treatment. Each case that comes before the court has its own unique facts, circumstances, and evidence.

As your District Judge, I strive to ensure that all parties, whether law enforcement, victims,  defendants or  private citizens, are given a considerate and fair evaluation of the facts and evidence with the appropriate application of the relevant law.
Decisions of judges are not always popular.  However, if a judge acts fairly, and without allowing politics, favoritism, or vengeance to interfere with the decision making, then that judge has acted with integrity.

I give you  my pledge that if you trust me with your support and vote, I will continue serving with the utmost integrity. It has truly been an honor serving as your District Judge, and with your help and support, I would like to continue serving you and to finish my legal career as your District Judge.

Respectfully yours,

Travis Kitchens
